Thacker Volunteer Management Services specializes in developing educational material, facilitating training workshops and providing consultation in the area of managing volunteer programs. Thacker Volunteer Management Services was founded in 2003, is owned and managed by its President Colin Thacker. Colin Thacker has been a certified manager of volunteer resources for 30 years and has conducted numerous workshops focusing on the management of volunteers. Colin is a past president of the Ontario Association of Directors of Volunteer Services in Healthcare and was a founding member of the Professional Administrators of Volunteer Resources-Ontario.(PAVR-O) In 1999, Colin was presented with the Linda Buchanan award by PAVR-O for his continued outstanding contribution to the field of Volunteer Administration.
Colin has an Honours Degree in Political Science from Laurentian University, a diploma in Human Resource Management from Canadore College and a Masters Degree in Education from Nipissing University. He is a member of the Rotary Club of North Bay, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23,and a member of the YMCA in North Bay. Colin is a current member of the Journal of Professional Development for Educators editorial board. Colin has successfully completed an advanced diploma in Volunteer Management from Washington State University.
Colin is the author of four books, Volunteering in a Unionized Environment, The CAPS Formula: Essential Strategies in Working with Volunteers Effectively, The Triple Rs of Developing and Sustaining a Volunteer Program: Recruitment, Retention and Recognition and Fron Risk Management to Best Practices for Volunteer Programs. In order to complete his Masters Degree, Colin conducted a research thesis on Mandatory Volunteerism that examined the attitudes of 783 Ontario secondary school students in North Bay towards the forty hours of required community service work that they must complete before they can graduate.
