Volunteer Bill of Rights

  1. Be treated as a co-worker...not just free help
  2. A suitable assignment, with consideration for personal preference, temperament, life experience, edu­cation, and employment background
  3. Know as much about the organization as possible; its policies, people and programs
  4. Training for the job, thoughtfully planned and ef­fectively presented
  5. Continuing education on the job, as a follow-up to initial training and information about new develop­ments
  6. Sound guidance and direction by someone experi­enced, well-informed, patient and thoughtful and who has the time to invest in giving guidance
  7. A place to work; an orderly designated place, con­ductive to work and worthy of the job
  8. Promotion and variety through transfer from one experience to another
  9. Be heard, to have a part in planning, to feel free to make suggestions and to have respect shown for an honest opinion
  10. Recognition in the form of promotion and awards, through the day by day expressions of appreciation and by being treated as a bona-fide co-worker
  11.  The right to volunteer in a safe environment.
